Fall festivals in Northwest Atlanta have a scheduling problem this year, and if you want to see more than a couple of them you need to know about it now.

Four of the biggest events in the region land on two Saturdays. October 17 holds Taste of Acworth and the second day of Pigs and Peaches in Kennesaw. October 24 holds the Cartersville Fall Festival, West Fest at the Booth Museum, and the Acworth Halloween Jambooree.

Three major events on one Saturday in three different counties. Plan accordingly.

Here is the October calendar across Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding, and Bartow, organized by when rather than by where.

October 3: Woodstock Starts the Season

Downtown Woodstock opens with an Oktoberfest-inspired event running from 2 to 6 p.m., with seasonal drinks, food specials, and stops throughout the downtown district.

Woodstock also runs a scarecrow display that takes over downtown through October, with hundreds of creative scarecrows installed after a late September kickoff. If you have not walked downtown Woodstock during scarecrow season, it is worth the trip on an ordinary weekday evening when the crowds are thinner.

Woodstock’s restaurant density makes it the easiest of the four downtowns to combine with dinner, which matters when you are trying to fit several of these into one month.

October 10: The Great Pumpkin Fest in Canton

Cherokee Veterans Park in Canton hosts the Great Pumpkin Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with hay rides, food vendors, and costume contests.

A mid-morning start makes this one of the more manageable events on the calendar, and Cherokee Veterans Park has the parking capacity that downtown venues do not.

If you are shopping Canton communities like Great Sky, Towne Mill, or BridgeMill, this is a reasonable way to see the area on a weekend when people are actually out.

October 16 and 17: Pigs and Peaches in Kennesaw

Kennesaw’s barbecue festival runs two days at Depot Park, with competition teams firing up smokers alongside live music, a community talent showcase, food, and a kids zone.

Pigs and Peaches is one of the longest-running events in the area and it draws from well beyond Kennesaw. Depot Park is walkable from downtown Kennesaw, which means parking fills early.

The Friday evening session is the quieter of the two. If crowds are a concern, go Friday rather than Saturday.

October 17: Taste of Acworth, and the First Collision

Downtown Acworth hosts Taste of Acworth, with food from area restaurants, live musicians, a dog show, a fashion show, and activities throughout downtown. One listing describes 150 food and local vendors plus a kids zone with bounce houses.

This is the signature Acworth fall event and it fills Main Street completely.

Here is the conflict. It runs the same Saturday as day two of Pigs and Peaches in Kennesaw, which is about fifteen minutes away. Both are full-day events and both draw heavy crowds.

If you want both, Pigs and Peaches opens Friday and Taste of Acworth does not. Do Kennesaw Friday evening and Acworth Saturday.

October 24: Three Events, Three Counties, One Saturday

This is the day the calendar genuinely collides.

The Cartersville Fall Festival runs 4 to 8 p.m. at Dellinger Park, now in its second year after what the city describes as an incredible turnout for the inaugural event. It is free, featuring live music, inflatables, carnival games, food vendors, and new this year, arts and crafts vendors. The pumpkin patch offers more than 1,000 mini pumpkins for kids to decorate and take home, and the evening closes with Movie on the Field starting just after 7:30 p.m.

West Fest runs the same day at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, celebrating Western culture with demonstrations, vendors, Native American dancers, and hands-on art.

The Acworth Halloween Jambooree runs 3 to 7 p.m. at Logan Farm Park.

Two of those three are in Cartersville, which actually makes them combinable. West Fest during the day at the Booth, then Dellinger Park at 4 for the Fall Festival and the movie. That is a full and genuinely good Saturday.

The Acworth Jambooree overlaps directly with the Cartersville festival window, so that one is an either-or.

Also in Cartersville: The Great Locomotive Chase

Earlier in the month, Cartersville hosts the Great Locomotive Chase Festival from October 2 through 4.

Bartow County runs a heavier festival calendar than its population would suggest, with Pioneer Days in early September, the Locomotive Chase in early October, and then both West Fest and the Fall Festival on the 24th.

That is part of what makes Cartersville distinctive among the four downtowns. It functions as a small city with its own civic calendar rather than as a suburb that borrows one.

Acworth Runs More Events Than Anywhere Else

Beyond Taste of Acworth and the Halloween Jambooree, the city maintains one of the fullest event calendars in the region.

The Acworth Art Fest and the Acworth Craft Beer Fest both appear among the events locals name, and the city runs programming through the fall into the holiday season with the Turkey Chase race the Saturday before Thanksgiving and the Light Up Main Parade in December.

Logan Farm Park and Depot Park host much of it, and historic downtown absorbs the rest.

If you are considering Acworth and want to understand what living there actually feels like, the fall and holiday calendar is the honest answer. This is a town that shows up for itself.

Worth the Drive From Here

Three larger regional events sit within reasonable range.

The North Georgia State Fair runs in Marietta from late September into early October. Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega falls on October 17 and 18. The Chiaha Harvest Fair in Rome runs October 25 and 26.

Dahlonega and Rome are both genuine day trips rather than evening outings, and both are at their best in October. One of the underrated advantages of living in this part of the state is how much of North Georgia is within ninety minutes.
